HHS Releases New Regulations to Promote the Health & Safety of Children in Child Care
The Department of Health and Human Services announced revisions to the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) regulations to better protect the health and safety of children in child care.
Under the proposed rules, states, territories, and tribes would be required to ensure that all child care providers who care for CCDBG funded children:
Receive health and safety training in specific areas
Comply with applicable state and local fire, health and building codes
Receive comprehensive background checks (including fingerprints)
Receive on-site monitoring
CCDBG has not been reauthorized in 17 years and the regulations associated with CCDBG have not been revised in 15 years! Now is clearly the time to protect children in child care and promote their healthy development.
