Child-care costs could rise sharply next year if a proposal to exponentially increase licensing fees takes effect as scheduled on Jan. 1.
The state's 2,700 registered child-care facilities, which currently pay a $150 flat rate for a three-year license, will see that fee rise to as much as $13,442 next year, according to a sliding-scale fee schedule unveiled by the Department of Health Services this week.
